DLDown are...

...an Edinburgh/Aberdeen based acoustic/rock/jazz duo.  We play a variety of interesting original tunes, usually involving odd harmonies, unusual time signatures, tasteful or raucous sax solos, and plenty of looping of the loop pedal to create a sound which is often bigger than just the two of us.  Oh, and by the way, the D and the L stand for "Don't" and "Look" respectively.

Their recording studio/editing suite/art workshop consisted in its entirety of Jo's bedroom at Flat 3.

Press/other nice things people have said:

Read Cross Rhythms review of Puzzle here (8 out of 10!)

“...a jazzy folky jam band... great songs with a real sense of humour... great instrumentalists [with] a good grasp of technology employing a looping system to great effect.”

“Cool songs, ace sax playing!”

"Where was the 2nd guitarist?"

"Jo Wilson hushes the room with a minute or so of delicious loops that
abruptly end whilst his songs of faith sweep through the room. Icarus doesn’t overtly retell the tragedy of Daedalus’ son, but hopes (over a breezy island strum pattern and cool chord progressions) that “maybe to Heaven I can break through.” “Lazarus” then asks us to step into the surprised man’s sandals and try to imagine the electricity of a human resurrection. Solid, beefy guitar set and enlightening lyrics, although
the quick death of the brilliant loops and layers is a hard truth."
Darren Thornberry, Out of the Bedroom

"That was f***ing awesome!"

"What's the music?"
"It's Jo"
"But... but... it's brilliant!"

Tim's moved to London (everybody say 'aaww').  Jo will be playing solo for the time being, while on the look out for some new people to jam with.  Hopefully Tim will be able to join in again now and then...

Jo is just getting used to having too much time on his hands after graduating from a mechanical engineering masters at the beginning of the summer.  After working all summer in an office, he is currently spending too much time in his room making weird noises, spray-painting bits of cardboard and making webpages.  He's been playing keyboard for about a decade now, which is quite scary, and taught himself guitar when he got bored four summers ago.  He refuses to take responsibility for his bizarre sense of humour, as vented somewhat by all the odd links from this page.

Likes: to understand, singing in harmony with himself, frisbee when he gets round to it, Flat 3 antics, mazes, space, playing with photography, writing about himself in the third person.

Dislikes: golf, most vegetables, that really really shiny lip-gloss stuff that makes girls look like they're dribbling, those jumpy bits in films which you can see coming a mile off but nevertheless make you achieve 6 inches of air, "Juicy Bits".

Influences (not necessarily what he thinks we sound like, but what he enjoys listening to and playing, which is bound to rub off somewhere...):
Ben Folds (/Five), Blur, Dave Matthews Band, David Crowder*Band, Downhere, Lifehouse, Moxy Früvous, Phish, Pink Floyd

Observations: comic book characters' parents rarely have names, leading to such odd phrases as "Hello Ivy's Mum"; three shoes is probably one too many.

Quote of the moment: "Marmite? Zis ees ze 'alf-woman, 'alf-feesh, no?" (Guillaume)

Tim was born in Cape Town in South Africa and was brought up in the wilderness plains of Zambia. He now resides in the sunny city of Aberdeen where occasionally a memory of his childhood will cause him to speak in a slightly off South African accent about the pool he once had in his Zambian back garden. He's just graduated from playing with people's brains, and is  now endeavouring to learn the complexities of Nuclear Medicine before going on to train as a Doctor!  He covers up Jo's flubs with soaring jazz solos, sings the odd harmony line here and there, and makes weird noises on the keyboard (and occasionally on the sax {although not usually on purpose!}).

You may ask Tim how long he's been playing the Sax, and he'll probably say that he's been playing since he was 'this high'. You may also ask him if he can play that famous Baker Street solo, and he'll look at you slightly bewildered while mumbling something about how he can never remember the tune! But if you ask him why he took up the Sax in the first place, he'll tell you it all began at primary school.......I'll leave you to find out the rest.....

Likes:  Fruit salad & Fiona (although not both at the same time).

Dislikes:  Java & Being pretty much blind!

Favourite Joke:  "A fish swims into a wall......... Dam!"

Quote of the moment:  "I pass the test.  I will diminish, and go into the West..." (Galadriel, Lord of the Rings)
